This is the second part of the post published last week where you can learn what you can do with your body-wisdom and how your hands can lead you towards a desired change.
If we would know to listen to our hands what would they tell us?
Think of a situation in your life that disturbs you. It might be some kind of childhood trauma that you continue to be preoccupied by. It can be a recent situation you’re dealing with or it can be a future situation you wish to be better prepared for.
How do you feel when you think of this situation? Give this ‘feeling’ your whole attention and then notice your hands. How do you hold them? Are they relaxed? Is there any tension you notice, and if yes – where? Are your hands close to your body or are you holding them further away?
Now go and exaggerate what your hands are doing. If the right hand holds the left one, let it hold it even tighter. If there’s tension around your wrist, create this tension in a stronger way. Notice how it affects your breathing, your shoulders, your diaphragm or even your hips and legs and let it all happen.
Does this way of holding your hands have anything to do with ‘the feeling’ you started with? Are you nervous and therefore control your mood by holding your hands together? Are you excited and therefore moving your hands in a certain rhythm?
What would your hands have done in the past when the event was happening if they were free to let them express what you felt? If it’s in the future, can you free your hands to express what you want?
Let go of any tension you feel, more and stretch your arms and breathe deeply.
Next time when you’re in any situation that stresses you even a little bit – notice your hands and their posture and then move them; move your fingers, move the position of your arms and notice how it feels. You might be surprised how small changes such as this can create an outstanding life change – a change in the freedom you have and the way you feel.
